Fun Times

Last weekend we packed like sardines into the Crandall suburban and road tripped it up to Temple Sqaure for a little family vacation. My adorable mother, the infamous "Sherry Bobbins" celebrated her 29th birthday (again) this month, so we celebrated a teensy bit early amidst the glorious christmas lights on Temple Square.

It truly was a spectacular sight to see. Every tree was perfectly lined- clear to the tip of every branch. My absolute favorite lights were the ones that shone like a beacon in the night calling me home. They were "Tiffany" colored and truly did fill me up with the most fantastic spirit of gift giving- and brought back wonderful memories of Christmases past (*sigh*).
Santa, if you are listening...I heart the Frank Gehry Collection... and Ive always wanted a small bean.
We took an oh-so-luvly carriage ride through downtown Salt Lake to see and admire all the Christmas hoopla. Brigitte cried the whole time, making it extra fun for us all. Here is a pre-meltdown photo of my little freezing family:
After the carriage ride we tried to walk around Temple Square with all the other millions of people wanting to enjoy the life-sized nativity...but Brigitte's screaming sort of overtook the recorded message playing on the loudspeaker, adding a little too much reality to the whole 'baby in a manger' scenario. So we booked it back to our hotel, with baby screaming (not laughing) all the way. Hey! Poor girl, when we got back and unwrapped her swaddling snuggle - we found the culprit: hot yellow poopies clear up to her armpits. I felt really awful for not checking the obvious reason for her screams (hanging my head in shame). A lump of coal for me this year.

The next day I was feeling sickly. (Anyone who knows me is not shocked by this. Thankfully it wasn't strep throat like I had feared, but a sinus infection which I am still plagued with.) Anyway, my energy level was basically zero, so after we walked through the visitors center Brigitte and I went and took a long nap at the hotel. That night however was the best part of the whole trip! We got completely fraulined (as in Maria) up and headed for a birthday dinner at the fabulous Vienna Bistro. It was complete with schnitzel and noodle, fondue, and stuffed lamb leg. Even the jolly Austrian man with violin came to Aldelweis at our table! My great Grandma 'Cele was there to celebrate with us too (she is holding Brigitte, my Mom is holding Lila)

We truly had the best time ever! Thanks mom and dad for our new annual tradition!

Now this past weekend we headed to the Beal farm for Gabe's brother Chase's mission farewell.
He is headed to the Fort Worth Texas mission and I think he is pretty stoked. He did an awesome job speaking in sacrament meeting about service and I had an awesome time seeing EVERYONE break down during the  rest hymn "silent night". Gabe did hold it together better than was expected, and he only had to drink one mountain dew on the drive home to recover. We met the infamous Stephanie (chase's adorable GF) and all had a lovely time placing bets on how long she would wait for him! Apparently her mom waited for her dad, so I guess its possible! We'll see.
We had a blast eating, eating, and eating. Oh, and I finally jumped on the bandwagon and read TWILIGHT. I boycotted it for so long....and then finally due to the lure of sitting by a fire...I gave in. I read the whole thing in about 6 hours. I liked it against my better judgement AND despite the stupid ending at the prom. And yes, I suppose I'll read the rest of the series and see the move. (Im weak- WEAK I tell you!)
Saturday night we headed to the local high school gym to watch Kelsey play basketball. She is serious business on the court - whew! It was an exciting game that even went into overtime right at the very end. Thankfully we won by 2 points. The only TRULY alarming thing - was how much Brigitte enjoyed watching the game! Her little face turned up the court, down the court, following the players with deep concentration. And then every time a buzzer went off or a whistle blew, she would JUMP with a joyful startle! Oh little child of my husband's loins....

We had fun times playing Guesstures and Rage, holding babies, and talking around the kitchen table. Best of all I got a hot shower AND a bed to sleep in EVERY NIGHT! (my sincere apologies to those who did not...) This is Brigitte keeping my spot warm when I hurried in to steal the aforementioned hot water before the masses awoke. She loves being tucked into a big bed!
And finally, here are a few pictures of us ready for church on Sunday. I love Brigitte's little red Christmas dress!

Are you all having yourselves a merry little Christmas???? we hope so.........

That was a great blog entry! So many fun stories! Sounds like all of it was a blast. I hope we can all get together soon. Oh ya, and if you want to do girls night for Twilight (or Matenee)...count me in. I've changed my mind and decided that I need to see it again. One more thing, my books are sitting here waiting for you to borrow them...so just say the word.
